James B. Golden, Jr.

James B. Golden, Jr. began his career with the School District of Philadelphia on April 2, 2005, of which he has since retired. Responsible for creating and sustaining a safe learning environment for 167,000 students and more than 25,000 staff members, Mr. Golden lead the Office of School Climate and Safety, a department of more than 700 employees, including 450 sworn school police officers and 200 security personnel.

Prior to joining the School District, he served with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration. As the Federal Security Director at the Philadelphia International Airport. Mr. Golden lead a staff of more than 800 employees and was directly responsible for a full range of airport security, federal law enforcement and regulatory oversight.

Mr. Golden has worked in law enforcement for more than 40 years and served as Director of the Trenton, NJ Police Department from 2000-2002. With his police department team, he created the Security and Terrorist Threat Investigative Unit following the attacks on New York and the anthrax mailings in the Trenton area. Prior to his appointment in Trenton, he held the position of Police Chief with the Saginaw, Michigan Police Department, leading 200 sworn and civilian employees.

He began his law enforcement career in 1970 when he joined the Philadelphia Police Department, serving in Patrol, Staff Services and Headquarters Administration. He held the ranks of police officer, corporal, sergeant, lieutenant and captain, and served as the department's Executive Officer from 1992 until his retirement in 1996.

Mr. Golden holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Philadelphia University. He completed graduate courses at the Univerity of Virginia at Quantico. Mr. Golden is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the Senior Management Institute for Police at the Police Executive Research Forum and Harvard University, and the Temple University Public Service Management Institute.

Mr. Golden is a member of the International Associaytion of Chiefs of Police, Kappa Psi Fraternity, and is past President of the National Organization of black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE). As a member of the board of directors for Leadership Trenton, Mr. Golden works with a group of distinguished citizens in a program that fosters the development of future leaders in the fields of business, education, health, law and justice, and public service. He has served on the board of directors for ISLES, Inc., a non-profit community development organziation, and is a member of the Leadership Team of the Princeton Community Church.

Mr. Golden and his wife, Victoria, have three daughters, two sons-in-laws, and four grandchildren.
