Brief summary of business:
Front Runner New Jersey is the news website that covers the African American community in South Jersey. Through our specialized columns, we have extended our coverage to the Latino community and other communities of color. We take a hyperlocal approach of bringing positive news, information and features to communities that are currently lacking daily coverage. Front Runner New Jersey is a subsidiary of AC Joseph Media, which creates engaging website content, press releases, media packets, annual reports, etc. for clients. Past clients include the South Jersey Journal, Purdue University Supplier Diversity, and the Greater Lafayette Indiana Black Expo among others.

How many years have you been in business? 10 years


How did you become involved in the communications industry?
 I've been a professional journalist for more than three decades. Working for mainstream newspapers in the South and Midwest, I witnessed how many stories about Blacks and other minorities were excluded from publication because of space and other reasons. The Internet has allowed me to create a publication to constantly provide a voice to communities that have often remained invisible or hidden in the news media. As an African American journalist, using my skills to provide this platform is more than business but it's personal.


What motivates you?
What motivates me is making sure people of color have a voice. Especially in this climate of shrinking reliable media options, the mainstream media often struggles to cover all the communities in regions. Front Runner New Jersey is proud to stand in that gap to provide that coverage. Misinformation and disinformation about our communities run rampage in the digital spotlight. FRNJ fights those misconceptions on a daily basis.


What’s an interesting fact about your business most people don’t know?
We try to be very responsive to our readership. We look to create a constant conversation between our readers. We want that conversation to be two-sided and not just us writing what we think our readers want to see.


When did you join the AACCNJ?
July 2022


As someone doing business in New Jersey, how does the chamber help you? I'm hoping the chamber will connect me with businesses interested in connecting with the African American community.


What has been the most valuable aspect of your AACCNJ Membership?
Working with the staff and meeting other African American business owners and those interested in connecting to the community.


What advice would you give to other AACCNJ Members?
Get involved and don't be afraid to ask questions.


When you are not working, where do you enjoy spending your time in New Jersey?
Attending many of the great New Jersey Shore spots.


Why should African American chamber members support Black and minority media outlets? No one is going to care about your story and root for your business more than the Black Press. I still run into Black businesses that will not take the work we do seriously or not think of us first when a major announcement needs to be made. Every member in this organization should have a Black Press outlet on speed dial or have their email address handy. We want your business and we will make your business, event, honors and work a priority.

 I’ve always loved working with numbers. When the opportunity presented itself to

work with a CPA firm in 2008 I took it. From there, I continued to work in corporate environments. In 2016 I was offered the opportunity to contract with an Accountant. I was inspired through that relationship to become an Entrepreneur.


What motivates you?
As someone who is driven by passion, I’m very intentional about creating a positive impact. Throughout the years communities have supported me and served me well and I want to be an extension of that. When you help others achieve their dreams you will achieve yours in the process!

As someone doing business in New Jersey, how does the chamber help you? The Chamber helps my business to make connections and gain exposure. They offer a ton of valuable resources to assist you in a variety of areas. Joining the chamber has helped me build trust with Entrepreneurs from all walks of life.


What has been the most valuable aspect of your AACCNJ Membership?
Exposures to businesses that need our services and access to resources that create a huge impact.


What advice would you give to other AACCNJ Members?
Get involved, show up in every possible way. When people know who you are and what you do they are able to connect with you. Ask questions, make connections and build relationships!


When you are not working, where do you enjoy spending your time in New Jersey?
I enjoy spending time with my family in social settings such as bowling and Dave and Busters. Most of all I love to travel to the New Jersey shore when time and weather permits.


Who is your favorite sports team? My favorite sports team is the Chicago Bulls.


When did you decide entrepreneurship was for you? I thought about it for years and never pursued it because I didn’t have the resources or the right circle of associates that had Entrepreneur spirits. In 2016 I was presented with an opportunity to work with an Accountant that started a new business. She was aware that I had a background in Accounting and Administrative industries. I started supporting her in her business with Quickbooks and various day to day administrative tasks. Today the Accounting firm is a six figure business and counting!


What Projects and or Collaborations are you working on? I am an Ambassador for 17Hats. Through that business collaboration, I offer support with educating potential clients on the benefits and features of the system. I also offer a 17Hats system set up, which is a premium service.

How did you become involved in the event planning industry? I have loved decorating since I was a little girl and loved expressing myself through art whether it was painting large murals at the Christian Daycare center that I worked at, or making handmade gifts for any and everyone I loved. As I got older I expanded my passion to creatively decorating my dorm rooms to appear as luxury studio apartments from using the finest Walmart materials! Once I graduated college and started working in corporate part of my earlier responsibilities were to plan events for employees to promote engagement. I realized that I was more in tune with how my art made people feel and genuinely loved watching how I was able to positively influence someone's day, life or moment. I decided to open up my business in 2016 Part-time and in 2018 I left my 6 figure corporate job to work my business full time. 


What motivates you? What motivates me is achieving my goals. I am very self-motivated so often I like to challenge myself and understand that we have only one life to live...so I try to live each day doing/being better than I was the day before. I also don't like to accept failure without trying my absolute best. I know what I'm capable of and I know how driven I am. If something doesn't work out it will only be because it wasn't meant to be...not because I didn't try hard enough, and that is something that I can accept. 


What’s an interesting fact about your business most people don’t know? My business name was picked out by my little cousin who probably was around 9 at the time. My family and I were trying to come up with a name and asked the kids what names they could come up with. My little cousin shouted "Create That Party"! It was so simple and catchy that I actually liked it. 


When did you join the AACCNJ? I joined January 2023


As someone doing business in New Jersey, how does the chamber help you? As of right now the communication as well as the marketing tools. I am impressed with the emails, phone calls, events and the website that was created for me. 


What has been the most valuable aspect of your AACCNJ Membership? As of right now the communication as well as the marketing tools. I am impressed with the emails, phone calls, events and the website that was created for me. 


What advice would you give to other AACCNJ Members? I think with any organization it is important to be involved. I think we all have an influence on how much we get out of it and it starts by our own participation. We can't expect to make connections if we are not in the room to shake their hands. 


When you are not working, where do you enjoy spending your time in New Jersey? Due to the nature of my work I actually enjoy silence now. I never thought I'd be the one to say I like to sit in the house alone...but I am surrounded by people, noise, and colors all of the time. When I'm able to rest I enjoy staying home. When I have energy I like to do things that are more low key such as bike riding in a beautiful park, listening to a live band at an intimate non popular location or going to the movies where I can indulge in eating popcorn along with the cheddar cheese seasoning topping only sold at specific theaters and a small slurpee filled with all of the flavors that are working that day. :-). I am also an avid gym rat that enjoys seeing how my hard work impacts my body so at least 5/6 times out of the week you can catch me there!


Who is your favorite sports team? Mehh...I don't have one. I'm not really into sports outside of actually playing them. However, I do enjoy boxing. Mainly because I used to box and understand the mental challenge it ignites depending on how serious you take it. I have a lot of respect for anyone who gets in the ring.


If you could choose a person to collaborate with or service, who would it be? It would hands down be Michelle Obama. I would love the opportunity to execute an event for or with her! I am motivated by women who break barriers, stand firm in who they are and pave the way for others and I've always believed that Michelle is the perfect person to express my gratitude to.

Brief summary of business: PCDC is a group practice that has been in business since 2016 and has locations in Manalapan and Hamilton, NJ. The practice serves teens, adults and offers individual, family and couples counseling. They also host seminars, workshops and retreats addressing a plethora of topics, including, but not limited to self-empowerment, anxiety, parenting and vision boarding. PCDC also provides corporate wellness trainings to assist in creating a healthy work environment.

How did you become involved in the mental health industry? I've always had an interest in the functioning of the human mind. I truly believed that if people knew better, they would do better. Some of us didn't have the proper tools given to us or didn't know what to do with the knowledge we did have. Going into the therapeutic field allowed me to join individuals on their journey and assist in empowering change.


What motivates you? I get motivation from so many places. One is the endless possibilities of life. Knowing that therapy has the ability to change the trajectory of one's existence beyond measure motivates me every day to do what I do. Community outreach also motivates me. Being able to provide affordable therapeutic services to those in the community without insurance or those who cannot afford their deductible keeps me driven. Lastly, my circle motivates me. I have the best team at PCDC, they are beyond supportive, and my husband and sister are always inspiring and motivating me to keep building.


What’s an interesting fact about your business most people don’t know? An interesting fact is when we first opened, most of our furniture was either donated or bought second hand. My husband and I refurbished it and made it look brand new.


When did you join the AACCNJ? I joined March 2022


As someone doing business in New Jersey, how does the chamber help you? The chamber has offered networking opportunities, meeting individuals that I may have never otherwise met.


What has been the most valuable aspect of your AACCNJ Membership? The most valuable aspect for me has been the newsletters which has provided invaluable information.


What advice would you give to other AACCNJ Members? I would tell members to utilize the resources. The information and possibilities are there, but you have to do the work for it to be beneficial.


When you are not working, where do you enjoy spending your time in New Jersey? I enjoy spending time at home, having game night with my husband and two daughters.

How many years have you been in business? Dome Audio Inc., was founded in January of 2018. We have spent the last 5 years developing the intellectual property, engineering the business model, and solidifying the brand identity, preparing for our global debut this year, 2023.


How did you become involved in the tech industry? Founder and IP Developer of Dome Audio, Ben White, spent 25 years in the music industry as a song writer, musician and producer. His years of experience with sound and passion for tech development led him to developing a first of its kind audio headphone that is impacting the way the world experiences sound.


Co-Founder and Chief Strategic Officer of Dome Audio, Tim Wright, reached the pinnacle of professional sports with winning a Super Bowl, all while being an entrepreneur and founding his first business in 2016. What motivates you? Dome Audio’s mission to “Impact the way the world experiences sound” is our driving force of motivation. Developing a new form of headphone experience, giving the world access to sound for the hearing and deaf and hard of hearing communities, and expanding the boundaries of the status quo as black tech founders, is a challenge and motivation we are grateful to pursue each and everyday.


What’s an interesting fact about your business most people don’t know? We had the notion bone conduction technology could be effective for folks with challenged hearing, but it was our visit to Gallaudet University (preeminent DHOH institution) which made it clear Dome Audio can uniquely impact a community of a half billion people who are deaf and hard of hearing. Through our national pop-up tour it was confirmed, we are delivering an experience as surreal and appreciated to the deaf and hard of hearing community as folks have expressed from the hearing community.


When did you join the AACCNJ? We joined AACCNJ in September of 2022 as a President’s Club Member.


As someone doing business in New Jersey, how does the chamber help you?  ​As a company being founded in New Jersey that has a global reach, not having to look far past the garden state, the Chamber has made connections with some of the most valuable relationships to help our growth as a company.


What has been the most valuable aspect of your AACCNJ Membership? The most valuable aspect of my AACCNJ Membership is the access and resources our membership level has afforded us. Being at the table with key members of some of the largest corporations in the world, while having a leader like John Harmon and his team help navigate and cultivate these relationships have been a blessing.


What advice would you give to other AACCNJ Members? I would like to leave my fellow AACCNJ members with food for thought, a quote from the book of Dome, “How do you use your time, do you spend it, or do you invest it?” Proactively engaging with AACCNJ, is investing your time!


When you are not working, where do you enjoy spending your time in New Jersey? When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time at the Jersey Shore. Growing up minutes away, the Shore was a place not often visited as one would think living so close, but when I do get the opportunity to get there, it is always home away from home and the chance to spend time with nature, family and friends.


What is your favorite sports team? My favorite sports team is the New England Patriots. The Patriots have afforded me an opportunity to be a World Champion and I will forever be grateful for the culture, the leadership and what being a Patriot stands for.

How did you become involved in the cleaning industry? From my brother and sister's couch! My car broke down after a vending event in South Jersey and I stayed at their home for a few days, which turned into around a month. While stranded, I began taking odd jobs to make extra money -- DoorDash, jobs with my best friend, etc. Well, I decided after a while to explore an interest I had in cleaning, and started taking cleaning jobs as a contractor. While doing my job, I began receiving requests to clean privately. Moments later, my pastor, Apostle Dr. Racquel M. Stroud, gave a prophetic word that I should open "Lindsey Clean". We launched officially in March of 2020 and became an actual business July 31 of that same year. We have been blessed and blooming ever since. 


What motivates you? The curiosity of how far and how high I can go if I just have faith, do the work, and believe. I am driven to see who God says He created me to be. 


What’s an interesting fact about your business most people don’t know? We pray for our clients, regardless if they request it or not. 


When did you join the AACCNJ? February 2022


As someone doing business in New Jersey, how does the chamber help you?  ​The Chamber is a melting pot of wealth, knowledge, resources, and wisdom. While I am fairly new to the AACCNJ, I can definitely say that my company has grown substantially already from all of the support of those who work under the Chamber. This organization is definitely a key that will unlock some major doors in your company and life if you allow it.


What has been the most valuable aspect of your AACCNJ Membership? Networking with the phenomenal leaders that are in the organization. AACCNJ is a true gem of wisdom and knowledge that I am honored to be surrounded by and to glean from. 


What advice would you give to other AACCNJ Members? Take advantage of every opportunity that you can. Attend the meetings/events, stay involved, ask questions. This organization has been a blessing to me, and I have only been a member for less than six months. You will not know what is out there for you if you do not ask, seek, and explore. 


When you are not working, where do you enjoy spending your time in New Jersey? I enjoy exploring the state and seeing the various attractions. Because I live so close to NY, I'm always surrounded by the city life and buildings therein. However, I'm finding that NJ is rich in historical places, nature and even a waterfall! I love nature, so I'm excited to keep exploring the slower side of the state.

  Being the best version of myself. Setting goals and set to achieve them. Also my 2 children- now 17 and 12 years old.

We try to do the best we can to get everyone a job. But at the end of the day, the client- which is a company that pays us to find talent- has the last say and makes the final selection.

​As someone doing business in New Jersey, how does the chamber help you?
I’ve met so many wonderful people thus far. Getting invited to the Seton Hall Law Alumni gala by the chamber president in May was excellent as it was supporting a board member of AACCNJ that was getting honored. I am looking to lean on the chamber more as I look to find more companies in the area to help them with their staffing needs.

What has been the most valuable aspect of your AACCNJ Membership?
Exposure to many businesses in NJ

What advice would you give to other AACCNJ Members?
Join the chamber! And get involved. As a new member, I was apprehensive of joining the chamber b/c I thought all their events were in Trenton. To my surprise, they do a great job having events all over the state of NJ.

When you are not working, where do you enjoy spending your time in New Jersey?
In summers- by the beach. In winters- skiing in NJ in Mahwah or Verona, NJ


Who is your favorite sports team?
Loaded question. I’m originally from Philly- so it’s the Philadelphia Eagles. I think I’m supposed to say NY Jets, but no. lol

How did you become involved in the Painting Industry? It all started with a sandwich! I grew up watching my mom paint, it was actually in our DNA . I had my first job at a friend’s barber shop/ hair salon sweeping up hair for $5 a day and a few tips. But, I wanted more so I asked my mom how to earn extra money. While men are in and out of a barber chair pretty fast, women on the other hand, can spend an hour or more in a salon. The next day I decided to sell sandwiches, desserts and drinks. There, I was taught by my mother to always give your customer a great product and service with a smile. Time passed by, I decided to build GLSPainters to pursue my passion in the painting industry and continue to provide great products and service with a smile. Now, here I am providing world class customer service and being my own boss.

What motivates you?
  Providing for my family. Creating a change in my community, my employees, and all of the people around me.

I would say the fact that I started my business at a young age.

You can find me at any of the best restaurants in town with my family (we love to eat), parks because we love to be outdoors, social events in Philadelphia, all the shore points in New Jersey, and volunteering in my community.

How did you become involved in the Non-Profit Industry? I started out being a mentor for teens and that eventually turned into mentoring female adults and them coming to me for encouragement all while going through my own life circumstances dealing with abuse, low self-esteem, depression and anxiety from getting shot. I was just in a really bad place at one point in my life and I didn’t have the help I was seeking nor any tools or resources. I had my mom of course and God but I felt like I needed more. I tried booking appointments for counseling and I was told on multiple occasions that there’s a waiting list that could take up to 1 –2 years. I truly Thank God, because he gotten me through those rough days. Which Is why I am who I am today and able to help other women dealing with the same issues or similar. So, I started I Am Unique.

What motivates you?  My kids, how they’re so happy that I have a business and just them knowing that they’re rooting for me is an amazing feeling. So, I have no choice but to keep going. Also, when people doubt me and my vision, hearing a no or receiving a denial letter for funding or partnership opportunities, it makes go harder because I feel like I have something to prove not to them but to my kids and to my community. I strongly believe that God has allowed me to have this vision and fulfil tit and will be successful while doing it, so all the no's will turn around into yes and approvals from the right people so I cannot give up no matter what. 

What’s an interesting fact about your business most people don’t know?
That it is a Faith based Organization but not always identified as such. 

When did you join the AACCNJ? March 2022 

​As someone doing business in New Jersey, how does the chamber help you? The chamber offers a lot of opportunities to network and provides resources, opportunities and information on a weekly basis via their weekly eblast.   

What has been the most valuable aspect of your AACCNJ Membership?
The ACCNJ has assisted my business in several ways thus far:

• having a one-on-one meeting to discuss my needs and how to best assist my business. Many chambers do not use their time/resources to sit down with each member one on one and great an individualized plan for their success. The AACCNJ strives for the success of all of their businesses from sole proprietorships to corporations.

• promotion of my ribbon cutting- free promotional services; sent via email & social media to encourage attendance at the event

• opportunity to appear on the radio show- a free service to members to promote their goods & services

• opportunity to be featured on aaccnj member spotlight- another opportunity to get my business in front of the AACCNJ network (and that has all just been in the first six months!)

I attended my first networking event on June 15th….4 hours of networking....It was a great opportunity to form new relationships.

What advice would you give to other AACCNJ Members? Definitely take full advantage of the connections and information that AACCNJ provides you. Stay humble in the process and always remember to believe in YOU even when people don’t believe in you or your vison or your business etc. whatever the case may be, Believe in you always! 

What has I Am Unique’s biggest accomplishment been this far? Having our ribbon cutting and having opportunities to spread the word.
 
Do you have any other businesses outside of I Am Unique? Yes, I also have an event planning business called STYLED BY SHON LLC. 

When you are not working, where do you enjoy spending your time in New Jersey? I love spending time with my husband and children at home but If I had to choose a place it would be Atlantic City, the beach or the boardwalk and Cherry Hill Mall I love shopping when I can.

Brief summary of business: The Ocean Wind Pro-NJ Grantor Trust is a $15 million fund established by Ørsted and Ocean Wind, with the goal of ensuring that the offshore wind industry in New Jersey is developed in a sustainable and inclusive way. Furthermore, the Trust is committed to supporting coastal infrastructure and resiliency projects in Ocean, Atlantic and Cape May counties to help mitigate the impacts of severe weather occurrences and flooding to help increase coastal resiliency and help municipalities and counties better respond to natural disasters.

What motivates you?  The Trustees of the Pro-NJ Grantor Trust are committed to making sure small, women-owned and minority-owned businesses across New Jersey have an opportunity and the ability to participate in the supply chain required to support the U.S. offshore wind industry. 

What’s an interesting fact about your business most people don’t know? New Jersey has committed to a goal of achieving 7,500 megawatts of offshore wind by 2035. The three projects currently underway – Ocean Wind 1, Ocean Wind 2 and Atlantic Shores – account for just over 3,750 megawatts. That means we’re halfway to meeting the State’s goal for offshore wind, and a domestic supply chain is imperative to do so. There is still ample time for businesses to learn about the offshore wind industry and to get involved. 

When did you join the AACCNJ? 2021

​As someone doing business in New Jersey, how does the chamber help you?  The Chamber provides a direct pathway to the very businesses we want to apply for grant funding and ultimately have a role in what will be one of New Jersey’s newest economic drivers. 

What advice would you give to other AACCNJ Members? Offshore wind is an opportunity for all – not just the companies developing these projects.  We encourage all members to consider creative and novel ways their businesses can support and participate in the offshore wind industry. Some examples of businesses that may be able to adapt to support this industry include:

Brief summary of business: Worldcast Live is a Live Digital Cloud-based SAAS platform for content management that supports live streaming, interactive features, and on-demand content. The cloud-based platform provides the clients with a one-stop API solutionfor webcasting, content management, user profile roles, polling, scheduling, and custom live event management. The entire platform can be branded to match the client's needs hence maintaining client branding. The client is also provided with a marketing team to help promote/manage content, a video editing team, and a professional live production team to make any event a true TV-style production or corporate event. The platform also supports consumer incentive programs allowing employers/clients to create loyalty programs with QR Code redemption support. The platform also supports cashless food and merchandise ordering via its app with location based info for any vendor big or small.

How many years have you been in business? 8 Years

How did you become involved in the media industry? After spending many years in the finance sector on wall street working in mutual funds department I started working on a DJ platform with current cofounder George Skeete. The goal was to build a platform that allowed DJs to do a gig remotely from their home studio anywhere in the world, get paid for it and still go out in the night to their normal gigs.

As we developed the software it turned out to work quite seamless but the market was not ready for remote DJs back in 2009/2010 . As people saw the DJ platform they inquired on its usage for other areas like concerts, festivals, seminars etc. In order to accomadate different verticals the company was formed with the name Worldcast which later became Worldcast Live Inc. The main goal was creating interactive software for the entertainment sector that was low latency, realtime and rewarded the fans for engaging. Since then we have gone on with the third founder Jacquelin Benton to do festivals, concerts, talk shows, fashion shows, comedy segments, MMA, WWE, Cricket, Basketball events and much more.

What motivates you?  With a passion for technology and where it can take the human race its always fun to wake up each morning and see what are the new ways that we can improve the platform or what new clients we can introduce to the service. Our goal is to produce a WOW each time with the platform for clients and the smiles on their faces at the end of the event says it all.

What’s an interesting fact about your business most people don’t know? All the technology in the Worldcast Live platform was build from the ground up as a custom solution with ideas from the core founders. The ideas were documented which allowed us to be awarded two patents for the technology with other patents pending. The platform is built for brand engagement with a focus on fans and rewarding them for interacting before, during and after the events.

When did you join the AACCNJ? Worldcast Live Joined AACCNJ in January of 2022.

​As someone doing business in New Jersey, how does the chamber help you? 
As a 100% minority owned business getting exposure for the brand and creating new business contacts greatly helps grow the brand and reduce some of hurdles in growing a business in the tech space.

What has been the most valuable aspect of your AACCNJ Membership?  We are still fairly early in the membership but the regular communication that is done and the drive to push each and every business to get the most exposure is a valuable aspect of the membership.

What advice would you give to other AACCNJ Members? No one is going to give you anything in the business world so as a business owner you have to put in the work to get your company out there and known for a unique offering that is differentiated from other brands in your sector.

When you are not working, where do you enjoy spending your time in New Jersey?  When I am not working time is spent either at the beaches, water parks or bike paths in the summer in NJ.

How did you become involved in the subscription box industry? I wanted to find a way to market and distribute Black owned businesses nationally throughout the entire year. Subscription boxes was the best way to execute my mission.

What motivates you? The deep love I have for our community and the need for our community to understand the importance with supporting each other.

What’s an interesting fact about your business most people don’t know? 
I'm not sure people know about about our philanthropy part of our business. Every quarter we donate a portion of our box proceeds to charities/non-profits that aid in building, uplifting and empowering the Black community.

As someone doing business in New Jersey, how does the chamber help you? As soon as I joined Mary Griffith made sure I have the basics nailed down. Connecting me to get my necessary certifications, this interview...it really is a blessing. I am so happy I joined.

What has been the most valuable aspect of your AACCNJ Membership?  The connections and the valuable information in regards to certifications and funding.

What advice would you give to other AACCNJ Members?  Stay connected and take advantage of any opportuntity that comes your way.

When you are not working, where do you enjoy spending your time in New Jersey? When I'm not working, I'm spending time with my family. For obvious reasons we haven't done too much but we have been to Six Flags drive thru Safari quite a few times LOL

Who is your favorite sports team?  I am not a sports fan, I leave that to my husband LOL

When did you decide entrepreneurship was for you? I always knew I wanted to work for myself in some capacity. I've attempted other businesses in the past and it didn't pan out. At the end of 2016, I decided that I wanted to start a business that highlighted Black owned businesses in the best light because I was sick of hearing the negative stereotypes. Being a Fashion Merchandiser, I had a natural eye to curate and put things together so curating subscription boxes was a natural fit. Then October 2020 I was laid off from my job of 14 years and decided to jump into entrepreneurship full time and here we are!

Do you have any other projects/events planned for the near future? I’m currently working on my 5th year anniversary relaunch in Richmond, Va at Maggie Walker’s original St. Luke’s Building now called the St. Luke Legacy Center. I am breathing new life into The Vitamin M Box, continuing with my mission to connect consumers with Black owned brands on a cyclical basis.

Business Summary: The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. The New Jersey Region of the American Red Cross assures that all New Jerseyans affected by disaster receive care, shelter and hope; our communities are ready and prepared for disasters; everyone has access to safe, lifesaving blood and blood products; all members of our Armed Services and their families find support and comfort whenever needed; and in an emergency, there are always trained individuals nearby, ready to use their Red Cross skills to save lives.

How many years have you been in business?  The Red Cross was founded in 1881, I joined in 2012. Prior to that I spent 12 years in financial development for nonprofits. 

How did you become involved in the non-profit industry? I was a writer and actor in Hollywood. I began using my play productions to donate a portion of ticket proceeds to important causes. 

What motivates you?  I am motivated by the success of my team, and the ability for all of us to reach our highest potential while serving the needs of our community. 

What’s an interesting fact about your business most people don’t know?  Most people think of blood donation when the Red Cross is mentioned. It’s an important part of our mission, but so is serving people after disasters big and small. Here in New Jersey, we respond to about 900 housefires a year, offering comfort, a place to stay, financial assistance, and a recovery plan to families who have lost their place of residence due to fires or floods. 

When did you join the AACCNJ? We joined in 2021. 

As someone doing business in New Jersey, how does the chamber help you?  The staff at AACCNJ has been great in helping us promote the need for blood donation from African American and Blacks in New Jersey. Sickle Cell Anemia is a chronic disease that affects many people of this race, and donations from Black and African American donors offer a better match and a more effective transfusion for these patients. 

What has been the most valuable aspect of your AACCNJ Membership?  We anticipate the opportunity to meet proprietors of Black-owned businesses and would be pleased to form partnerships that promote disaster preparedness safety for their employees and customers. 

What advice would you give to other AACCNJ Members?   Take advantage of the opportunity to spotlight your organization and speak to its value on the AACCNJ radio show. 

When you are not working, where do you enjoy spending your time in New Jersey?  There are many walking trails that I enjoy, along with historic architecture. I also love the variety of restaurants offering delicious meals from many different cultures. 

Who is your favorite sports team? Don’t make me choose between the Eagles and the Giants! I love football, so let’s just say they’re both tops!
