Carmen Gates

Vice President, Community Development & External Affairs Officer

Carmen serves as a strategic leader driving initiatives that strengthen

community engagement, cultivate impactful partnerships, and expand

educational programming—all aligned with the Chamber’s mission to

advance economic empowerment within African American communities.
 
During her tenure with AACCNJ, Carmen has been instrumental in the

design, development, and execution of high-impact, community-based

initiatives. She works in close collaboration with executive leadership and a

broad network of stakeholders to deliver innovative, sustainable solutions

that address critical challenges, including economic inequities, disparities

in education, access to quality healthcare, and workforce diversity across

New Jersey.


Her diverse professional background spans information technology, media,

hospitality, healthcare, and the legal sector—equipping her with a

multidimensional perspective and a proven ability to drive cross-sector

collaboration and forward-thinking innovation.
 
A lifelong New Jersey resident, Carmen is deeply committed to creating

equitable opportunities and generating meaningful, lasting community

impact. Beyond her professional work, she is a devoted mother and

grandmother who values family, enjoys traveling, and finds joy in time

spent at the beach.
