Stan Prater

Senior Advisor to the Founder, President & CEO

Stan Prater is a retired Regional External Affairs Consultant at Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L), a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp, where he was employed for more 38 years. Stan was the Company’s liaison for over 40 municipalities in Hunterdon and Warren Counties. He was also the (DEI) Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Champion for JCP&L, reporting to the Regional President. 


Stan is a native of Morristown, NJ and is a 1974 graduate of Morristown High School. In 1979, he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Hampton University where he played football for four years.


Stan’s tenure at JCP&L, which began in 1984, has been marked by his continual growth in the business community and simultaneous engagement in community service. He was his company’s nominee and completed participation in Leadership Morris in 2003. In 2004, he completed The University of Akron College of Business Administration Executive Education Program. In his capacity as a JCP&L/FE employee, Stan volunteered for several years as the Chair for the Harvest for Hunger Campaign Coordinator and as a member of the Speakers Bureau.

Over the years, Stan has been the recipient of numerous awards by various entities throughout the State that recognize his tireless contributions to community: The Hope Chest Scholarship Foundation 2006 Outstanding Leadership Award; Leadership Morris Alumni Association Achievement Award for Community Leadership (2009); Calvary Baptist Church of Morristown NJ “Man of Standard” Award (2013); Fairleigh Dickinson CEO Volunteer Recognition Award (2016); Visions and Pathways Community Leader Award (2017); Bethel AME Church of Morristown NJ Outstanding Community Service Award (2020).


Stan has used his leadership skills in giving back to the community over the years and has been active on the Boards of the following organizations: Calvary Baptist Church Deacon Board; Warren County Economic Development Committee; the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce; The African American Chamber of Commerce of NJ; and the Hope Chest Scholarship Foundation (founding member). He served on the Advisory Council of Vision and Pathways, a home for temporarily displaced children, and was a founding member of the George Gramby Observance Committee (community drug & alcohol prevention group). He was also a Board member of Freedom House (an inpatient recovery home for drug & alcohol addiction for men & women), and most recently a founding member of the Calvary Baptist Church Youth Golf Academy, teaching minority boys and girls ages 10 to 16 golf skills and life skills to be used in multiple applications.


Stan served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the African American Chamber of Commerce of NJ from 2019-2023 and is currently employed by the Chamber as the Senior Advisor to the President & CEO John Harmon.


Stan is married to Barbara Moore Prater. They have one daughter, Victoria, who is married to Samuel Edem Gbate.
