Tanya L. Freeman, Esq.
Chief Strategy and Policy Officer
Tanya L. Freeman, Esq. brings leadership, opportunity, and community into alignment. A dynamic leader operating at the intersection of strategy, policy, and economic empowerment, Tanya serves as the inaugural Chief Strategy and Policy Officer of the African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey. In this role, she advances statewide efforts to expand access, strengthen partnerships, and create meaningful economic opportunities for Black-owned businesses. Her work brings together leaders across business, government, and community to turn shared vision into lasting impact.
Tanya is also a proven business builder. As the founder and managing partner of her own law firm, she has built and leads a thriving multi-million dollar practice, guiding a dedicated team committed to excellence, service, and results. Her career reflects both depth and range, shaped by more than 15 years in banking and insurance prior to entering the legal profession, where she developed a sophisticated understanding of financial systems, capital, and operational strategy. She later rose to lead major legal organizations and built a distinguished career advising clients in complex, high-stake matters with clarity, discipline, and integrity.
She is also a proven institutional leader. As former Chair of University Hospital, Tanya helped guide one of New Jersey’s most vital healthcare systems through a period of transformation, strengthening governance, rebuilding trust, and advancing equitable care for the communities it serves. Above all, Tanya is a proud mother of six children, all raised in the Garden State, whose life and work are grounded in a deep commitment to family, community, and legacy. She believes that when leadership is grounded in purpose and aligned with action, it creates opportunity that endures.
